Opportunities with NRCS in Illinois
The USDA’s Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) is a technical
agency of the Federal government devoted to natural resources conservation. NRCS
provides programs and assistance to help America’s private landowners conserve
their soil, water, and other resources on a voluntary basis. NRCS also provides
technical expertise to local, state and Federal agencies and policy makers.
To accomplish our conservation mission, NRCS employs a variety of specialists in
many disciplines. This includes: natural resources, agronomy, soil science,
biology, wildlife, cultural resources, computer technology, engineering, and
administration – just to name a few!
NRCS offers a variety of opportunities for students and interns to explore
interesting and rewarding career options. The Illinois NRCS employs students
from high schools, colleges, technical and vocational schools, and universities
from around the country, including Historically Black Colleges and Universities,
Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities, and Native American Colleges
and Universities.
NRCS Student Educational Employment Programs are designed for
high school and college level students looking to explore career options while
building skills and experience.
The NRCS Career Intern Program is designed for applicants who
possess the experience and education to enter the workforce in a technical or
professional capacity to further the NRCS mission.
“The Natural Resources Conservation Service provides
leadership in a partnership effort to help people conserve, maintain, and
improve our natural resources and environment.”
Student Educational Employment Programs
NRCS’s Student Educational Employment Programs offer opportunities for
college and high school students to explore career options while building skills
and experience. These programs are designed as temporary positions, but in many
cases may lead to future careers with NRCS. The Student Educational Employment
Program has two components: the Student Career Experience Program (SCEP) and the
Student Temporary Employment Program (STEP).
