On April 17th, 102 adults and Mendota school students volunteered their time and talents to assist the Little Vermilion River Watershed Committee in affixing approximately 800 medallions to the storm water sewer drains in Mendota, IL. The Watershed Committee is a committee of the LaSalle County Soil & Water Conservation District and a Earth Team Volunteer group. Their focus is to improve the water quality of the Little Vermilion River. Each student group of four, plus one adult chaperone, was responsible for gluing medallions on each storm sewer drain. The medallions, written in English and Spanish, inform the public that whatever enters the storm drains goes to our rivers and streams and could cause pollution.
